National Theatre Hopes for Staffordshire Youth Theatres

Young actors from two Staffordshire Youth Theatre groups are well on the way to performing on the famed stages of the National Theatre as part of the UK wide NT Connections festival programme.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Young actors from two Staffordshire Youth Theatre groups are well on the way to performing on the famed stages of the National Theatre as part of the UK wide NT Connections 500 festival programme.

The members of the New Vic Youth Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Stafford Gatehouse Youth Theatre have already taken the first steps by performing plays from this years National Theatre Connections programme in their ‘home’ theatres

New Vic Youth Theatre staged Bryony Lavery and Frantic Assembly’s ‘It Snows’ at the New Vic in March, meanwhile Stafford Gatehouse Youth Theatre mounted a production of ‘The Musicians’ by Patrick Marber

Kat Hughes, New Vic Youth Theatre Director, said:

“Our performances in March were the culmination of months of hard work from all the team. We had really positive feedback from the National Theatre who noted that the group were really enthusiastic and performed a really fun and energetic production of ‘It Snows’.”

YOUTH THEATRE FESTIVAL

Both Youth Theatre groups will now take their respective shows to Derby Theatre in May for a week long festival of youth theatre performances and workshops. A National Theatre panel will decide if they will go on to perform at The National Theatre Connections 500 festival in London later in the summer of 2016.  They will be performing alongside several other youth theatre groups performing other texts from this years NT Connections selection.

During their time performing at Derby Theatre, the groups will also take part in top notch training workshops with creative professionals, learning everything from improvisation to stage combat.

Staffordshire Theatre will update this story as soon as we know more.
