The New Vic Youth Theatre is embracing the growing trend in using modern tech in theatre performance and will be live streaming their latest production.

Their entry in this year’s National Theatre Connections programme, The Changing Room by Chris Bush , will be broadcast live via Facebook on Tuesday February 25th, the same time it will being watched by a packed live audience at the famous Staffordshire Theatre-in-the-round.

The high tech streaming expertise is being provided by Festival TV, which is one of the many theatrical and live event based services that have been perfected by Staffordshire based PH Production Services.

Using three cameras around the auditorium, they will be set up to capture the in-the-round action,  which then be beamed to audience members who are unable to attend the theatre in person.

Live streaming is becoming a very popular way to widen accessibility to live theatre, and has been a succesful element of the National Theatre’s output for the last few years, with many of their blockbuster productions broadcast live to cinemas across the country.

The play, The Changing Room is set in and around a swimming pool, follows a group of teens full of excitement, impatience and uncertainty, each with their own secret worries and desires for what comes next, as they teeter on the cusp of growing up.  Featuring a large cast and full young band, this electrifying gig-style performance marks the New Vic Youth Theatre’s fourth time performing as part of National Theatre Connections.

The Changing Room takes to the stage at the New Vic from 7.30pm on Tuesday 25 February 2020. Tickets are on sale now, priced at £9.50, from the New Vic Theatre Box Office and can be booked by calling 01782 717962 or online at newvictheatre.org.uk.
