New Pantomime Producers for Stafford Gatehouse

It appears that Rock and Roll is not here to stay in Staffordshire afterall, with Stafford Gatehouse Theatre revealing a big move away from its usual ‘rock pop themed panto’, and will for the first time in 8 years be returning to a more traditional seasonal offering.

Peter Pan will be flying into Stafford at the end of 2019, just in time to sprinkle some festive pixie dust over the audiences of the county town theatre before Christmas.

The bold move to staging a more traditional pantomime, over its rocking and rolling pre-decessor, also brings with it a new theatrical partnership in the form of new panto producers, Prime Pantomimes. 

New Producers

Prime Pantomimes is a new dedicated pantomime production company founded by award-winning Selladoor Worldwide and Immersion Theatre Company. Both companies are exceptionally passionate about pantomime and have promised to create story-driven, localised, and highly interactive productions with heart.

The bespoke new production for Stafford, billed as ‘an awfully big pantomine adventure’  promises to be a high-energy visual feast packed with audience participation and West End-standard performances all of which will create unforgettable shared family experiences and revitalise the institution of pantomime as traditional and modern combine to enrapture audiences of all ages.

No more Rock n Roll

The Stafford Gatehouse Theatre has been staging specifically rock n roll versions of its annual pantomimes since 2011, and had become famous for being one of only two UK theatres that regularly did so.

The shows would feature talented actor / musicians who would each play two or three instruments as well a their own panto character, often swapping instruments with each other mid-performance.  It certainly made Stafford Gatehouse pantomimes very unique indeed.

However both Sellador and Immersion, the new producers of the Gatehouse Panto, have built an exellent reputationn in recent years, producing and touring revivals of big hit musicals (FAME, Avenue Q, Rock of Ages) -as well as high quality children’s shows such as Elmer The Elephant and Madagascar the Musical.  They are also responsible for the current West End revival of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 at the Savoy Theatre.

So there is no doubt that the return to a more traditional pantomime production in Stafford will be of the highest possible quality.  It is unknown yet if if will feature any ‘star names’. Watch this space.
