[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]New writing is the lifeblood of theatre, so it is welcoming to see that the Lichfield Garrick Theatre is introducing us to Rebecca Newman, a Midlands based actress and writer who is producing and performing in her own first play at the Staffordshire theatre in April.

Her play, The Enduring Romance of Cathy and Heathcliff, which premiered at The Old Joint Stock Theatre as part of the 2015 Birmingham Fest, is a new piece of theatre writing inspired by the classic romance from Wuthering Heights.

Cathy is convinced she knows what she wants, a brawny, dashing man in chaps, just like Heathcliff. However, the man she meets at the bus stop one day is far from her male romantic lead. Time after time, fate drags them back together, both willingly and unwillingly and the play follows their unconventional lives together.

Featuring some of the most iconic music from the 50’s and 60’s, The Enduring Romance of Cathy and Heathcliff is an unconventional, dark, comedic reimagining of the classic romance.

Since graduating from The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Rebecca has been working for stage, screen and radio and most notably she played nurse Ally Hunter in BBC TVs ‘Casualty’.

She is passionate about new theatre writing, and rightly so. On writing her play, Rebecca Newman said:

“The play has been a long time in development, but it’s been a tonic to work on something that I enjoy. The industry is a slippery mistress and making my own work is my way of taking it by the horns.”

The play received very warm reviews when it debuted at Birmingham Fest, and it will be interesting to see how the play has matured since then in this new production.

The Enduring Romance of Cathy and Heathcliff plays at the Lichfield Garrick Studio Theatre on Saturday 9 April 2016 as part of their ‘Garrick Introduces…’ programme.

#NewWriting on show as @The_Garrick introduces 'The Enduring Romance of Cathy and Heathcliff' by @RebeccaNewman20 http://www.staffordshiretheatre.com/the-enduring-romance-of-cathy-and-heathcliff-by-rebecca-newman-at-lichfield-garrick-theatre/ Click To Tweet[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1458774858440{background-color: #e8e8e8 !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1458950926278{padding-right: 40px !important;padding-left: 40px !important;}”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”DATES, TIMES and BOOKING” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1458775149096{padding-top: 10px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner css=”.vc_custom_1458775554849{margin-bottom: 30px !important;}” offset=”vc_col-lg-6 vc_col-md-12″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1459701986338{padding-right: 15px !important;padding-bottom: 10px !important;}”]

Saturday 9th April 2016, 7:45pm

Standard £12, Students £8.50 [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner offset=”vc_col-lg-6 vc_col-md-12″][vc_column_text]

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
